Hello everyone,
Let’s suppose that there are two applicants from the same country who apply to the same school. Will they be put in direct competition during the application examination?
I also wanted to know how are dual citizens who have the U.S. citizenship + a foreign one and who have been studying in foreign school. Will they be considered in the domestic pool or in the international pool? Will this put them in a disadvantage compared to other students (Americans) (lower SATs and grades)?
I will really appreciate your help.
Applicants from the same high school, city, or country are not evaluated in “direct competition” with each other. Each is evaluated individually. Don’t worry about that.
A US citizen who has been educated outside the US will be considered for financial aid along with the other US applicants. That person’s academic record will be evaluated by the admissions officer responsible for students educated in the country where the student is being educated.
@happymomof1 When you said that people from the same country are evaluated by the same person doesn’t that mean that his choices will be influenced by the qualities of other applicants? For example, in Tunisia we have about 5 people applying in each school. Doesn’t that mean that they offer few spots for people like me? Admitting 1/5
Of course decisions will be influenced by the qualities of other applicants! However, international students are in competition with ALL international applicants, not just the people from their country. And there is nothing to keep an institution from admitting all five applicants from one country if they really like them.
Except for those colleges and universities that admit strictly based on grades and test scores, it is not always easy to predict who will get in and who won’t. Rumor has it that the US citizen abroad is favored over the true international applicant because of the financial aid issue and because they don’t require visas. But I have no idea whether or not there is any truth to that rumor. Someone at AMIDEAST might know. I’d suggest you ask them: https://www.educationusa.info/EducationUSA.Tunis
