My son was accepted by CMU for both Chemical Engineering and Biological Sciences. He is looking to go into medical research - after much schooling. CMU only offers a BME major as a dual degree with another engineering degree (my son thought Chemical would be best for this). However, when I was looking up accreditation for the BME on the ABET website, the BME at CMU is not accredited. Anybody have any insight on this??

I’m not sure about this specific case, but I’m not sure how important ABET is at top schools, since even MIT isn’t accredited for all of its engineering programs I think.

I was recently accepted into CIT and I want to be a BME. I was thinking about doing Chem Eng with BME at CMU. But BME isn’t even ranked at CMU and I don’t know how it would look for possible jobs in the future and if I’m getting a proper degree at CMU for BME.
I also got into Georgia Tech and so i’m not sure whether I should do BME at CMU or Georgia Tech…
Any opinions?

BME doesn’t need to be ABET accredited since all five of the other engineering departments are, and, as such, your son’s BS will be an accredited degree.

A relative designs heart values. He did weapon ballistics for his service obligation, which he didn’t like. BS Cal, mechanical.

DS (Carnegie Mellon) will be doing bio-robotics, BS ME. Needles makes him squimish.

Get a firm background in the fundamental engineering or science before you specialize. If you try to do it the other way around, you may find the specialization not to your liking. Done that.
