Any rumors if CMU will offer a single focused major in biomedical engineering? I may not be wording this correctly, but other universities allow someone to pursue this as a single major. I thought I read somewhere that this may be in the works at CMU, but I may be mistaken.

I can confirm that it is in the works (I heard it straight from the dept head’s mouth). The reason that CMU doesn’t currently have a BME single major is because BME is not quite a clear cut engineering major as say mechE is. One BME major could be a medical robotics specialist while another BME works on drug delivery. The primary engineering major at least gives you a background that employers can easily categorize you into. BME is still too general for that to be the case (unless you’re going pre-med, then it’s fine).

Great, that’s what I wanted to hear. My son will need to talk to an advisor. He is waitlisted for cit but admitted to mcs. So maybe he can do a semester of biology and hopefully some courses that will help him transfer to cit if he does not get admitted off the wait list. Thank you again for the info.
