I am interested in pursing a dual degree program, I found a couple at University of Texas at Arlington. Bachelors in Biology/MBA and Bachelors of Biology/Masters in Healthcare Administration. The latter is my ultimate career goal but first I was wondering which of these is better. I also heard that the 5 year MBA programs aren't received well by potential employers for some reason, and I don't see anything like these degrees at any of the bigger school I would prefer to go to. A dual degree in 5 years just seems logical and more efficient than 4 years doing a bachelors degree. (I have about 2 years of coursework done)

Does anyone know of anything similar in the state of Texas, any input on the above questions would be greatly appreciated!

Many employers would like you to have work experience along with that MBA, so they prefer job candidates who work a couple years between finishing their undergrad degree and enrolling in an MBA program. In my (admittedly limited) observation, MHA programs are judged differently. In either case, find out what kinds of internship opportunities come with the programs that you are looking at. Often internships will lead directly to employment after graduation.

Good luck!

My advice will take a bit of work, but I think its worth it since you already know (A) what you want to do (B) its a specialized area.

First, get the book “What Color is My Parachute” and read thru it, with special attention on the chapters regarding informational interviewing. Because that’s what you want to do. There are experts out there, they’re the ones that have the job you want to do. WCIMP will explain how to approach these people to get career advice, something people are surprisingly willing to do for students once they realize you’re not just another person angling for a job interview. Getting info from those that know best (and you’ll want to talk to several people, not just take what one person says as gospel) will arm you with the inside knowledge of how to best prepare for the field and find your way in.
