Georgia Tech offers a dual enrollment class for Calc II and III (for in-state students)
and I was wondering how much this helps my admission, given that I have good GPA and high SAT.
I’m debating on taking this class because if I take the regular multivariable class, I can get up to a 110 in the class (100+10 weight grade) but I can only get a 105 if I take GT dualenrollment.
Thank you!
Are you interested in attending Georgia Tech? If so, dual enrollment calc is a good option because it means you:
- enter with a GPA, which makes you one of the few first years eligible to study at GTL the summer after you start
- don’t have to retake calculus, which is definitely not an easy A here
- get the easy professor in the math department
Good luck in your decision!
@gogeorgiatech
So dual enrollment at GT in high school does significantly increase my chance? Like would it make my application stand out? Thanks
I’m out of state and I obviously don’t work in admissions since I’m a current student, so I don’t know whether it makes your application stand out. I know there’s a decent amount of students who did dual enroll. But if you decide to attend Tech, it does definitely make your life easier since you will be done with calculus.
I’m currently in the Calc II+III DE program, and I think it is definitely worth taking! From what I hear, if you can get in to the DE program, you (most likely) can get into GT…I’ll let you know how it worked out for me (I find out Jan 9th)…
I faced the same decision as you. I was ranked second in my class, but taking GT Math definitely dropped my rank this semester. Several other high rankers in my school decided to go for the traditional multivariable class to maintain rank, but I honestly do not think that was wise.
No matter where you apply, taking a real college math class (and from GT especially) is super impressive and it shows that you are taking advantage of your resources and challenging yourself. The difference between 105 and 110 may not be that great if you slip up in another class.
You can make up for the point loss by taking another AP (if you’re up for the challenge), but seriously don’t let the point loss affect your decision to take the class.
I LOVE the class, and Mayer (and Morley) are excellent teachers to have!!!

Thank you for the advice!
I guess I will have to take the ACT or SAT to take it. Not only was the difference between 105 and 110 a decision factor, it was also taking the ACT/SAT.
I’m sure I would improve my ACT/SAT from sophomore year to junior year and kind of felt reluctant on taking it so early because general rule is: don’t take it more than twice which means I have one shot at it my junior year…
