Hi everyone,
I'm planning to take some courses through dual enrollment yet I'm not sure how the credits work. For example, sometimes some classes in college are 3 or 4 credits. So if it's counted toward high school credit, would they also be counted as 3 or 4 credits per class?
Thank you in advance :)

^Usually not. You need to ask your guidance counselor since it can depend on your school and on the class.

My school counts my college courses as .6 or .8 credits per semester, depending on the class. Classes at my high school count for .5 credits. So, they’ll most likely be converted from college credit hours to high school credit hours. You may not necessarily get a credit boost like I do.

At my school, it is not based on credits, but on semesters. One semester class of Spanish at community college = one year of Spanish at high school.

Thank you everykne :)

Schools will be different. At my school, the breakdown is like this:

1 credit = a full semester of a high school class (on block schedule)
.5 credit = half that, obviously

The credit policy is completely time-based and not subject-based with respect to high school courses. However, subject is factored in for dual enrollment courses.

Dual Enrollment Classes
English/Literature = 1 credit
Math = 1 credit
Science with Lab = 1 credit
History/Humanities = .5 credit
Social Sciences = .5 credit
Science without Lab = .5 credit
Misc/Other = .5 credit

So while I’ll end up with 79 college credits (as regular classes are 3 and labs are 1), my high school credits (high school classes + dual enrollment classes) will be somewhere in the 30s. Which is good, as I’ll have around 150% of the credits I need to graduate.
