hey guys im a high school junior and i recently got interested in maybe taking a few classes at rice next year thru the dual enrollment program. ive got a few questions tho. anyone wanna answer some?

1) how hard is the application process? exactly as stated lol

2) at what time of the day would the classes typically be held?

3) do you ask for specific classes or do they just put you in one?

anyway, im kinda confused because the website has maybe a paragraph on this whole thing, so any help is good help! if you wanna explain everything to me, by all means, go ahead!

If you go [here you can see the course offerings for last summer. This summer's courses are not up yet. Search by session since there are few classes. I would guess that the admission process is easy; they probably take almost anyone who would like to go. I would also guess you choose your classes like a normal student, unless this is some program i am not aware of.

oh sorry i misunderstood, all you have to do is change the term. next fall won't work but this fall and all previous ones will. you will see the ones offered every year and it should give you a good idea of what to take next year.

again im not sure about how your dual enrollment works. i would like to say yes, barring courses with prereqs or higher courses in general. you can look at reviews of some course of sa.rice.edu, or ask here. what kind of courses are you thinking about taking?

I took a dual-enrollment course in high school (Government) and later found out that Rice would not accept the credits since the course fulfilled a HS graduation requirement. Had the course been a HS elective, instead, it probably would have transferred. Note: I did not take the course from Rice, so I don't know if this same policy applies when the course is taught here. (And if you wind up at another school with a similar policy, you might be stuck the same way I was.)

Read the fine-print and call potential colleges with any questions regarding "dual enrollment" credit transfer. It would be a shame to waste the tuition money and not get college credit for it after HS.

good point. i heard of that same thing happening to a friend who took 3 classes at a community college. rice didnt give him credit for any of them. (he didnt take them over, he just skipped them and everything worked out.)
