<p>Hello all. I'm currently starting as an economics major because I love the topic and I love the skills that one learns through the course work but I'm planning on doing a dual major with either Finance or Accounting? My question is which would make me more marketable and assist me in job hunting? For some background info I attend a top 100 university (NEU) and am hoping to either get into consulting, ibanking, or a few years as an analyst then an MBA? Any and all help/comments are appreciated.</p>

<p>I’d double-major in an art/science. Adds credibility to your intellectual drive, so it doesn’t look like you study things just to appear “marketable”. Also makes you stand out in your ability to think critically!</p>
<p>IMO on a resume, Finance, Econ, and Accounting appear very similar.</p>
<p>You should focus on getting internships - that will differentiate you more than any variation in those three degrees ever could.</p>
<p>From what I understand, regardless of major, its gonna be hard to get into consulting, and especially ibanking, from a school that isnt a major target school. I dont think just being top 100 qualifies. But I am not experienced in searching for a job in the field</p>
<p>I should be able to get good co-ops through the colleges highly ranked co-op program. I am not really looking for an ibanking career path (the money is great but that’s about it) so I am actually leaning more towards a consulting/analyst career and maybe something in banking but not ibanking. I may be getting ahead of myself with the dual major but I do know that interning and getting solid work experience is just as important.</p>
<p>I’m pretty bias but I’d 100% so accounting and maybe leave out the economics. I was in the same boat as you and really wanted to do accounting but it’s so difficult to find a job with a Econ degree outside teaching if you don’t go to a top (like top 5) Econ program. </p>
<p>Accounting gets your foot in the business door and allows you to go a lot of places, including i-banking and consulting, if you do things right. I’d check to see what your school is good at first, it sounds like your pretty early on in college so maybe think about a transfer.</p>
<p>Really? I’ve actually heard that even outside of the top 5 Econ programs there are great job opportunities out there? I know Accounting is obviously different and opens a lot of doors but I really enjoy Econ and wouldn’t want to just all-together drop Econ as my major.</p>
