Dudes, what are my chances

hello, i am wondering, what are my chances. please tell me so i can ease my stress. by the way, i am rick james bitches

3.38 gp uw 3.75 w
1210 sat
african american
good ec's
good recs
sat ii 610, 590, 550

so what do you think. am i duke material. by the way, my recs were from my high school principal and 2 alumni of duke

Honestly, you don't really have much of a chance. It will be almost impossible.

i would say that you have a very slim chance as well. with duke having a 25th percentile SAT at 1390, your scores are abysmally low. calling us profanities probably won't garner favorable responses either.

Duke's SAT 25th percentile is not 1390...at least not for matriculation students. Are you sure that isn't the 25th percentile of accepted students?

middle 50% was 1320-1510

hey i would be as mean as the other guys, but your chances are low. if you wrote a steller essay, had great recs and maybe one or two totally outstanding and unique extra curriculars than you might have a chance. but statisically speaking you aren't the best candidate. if you had a high gpa or a high sat score it might help

For last year, Class of 2008, it was 1390-1530 (1370-1520 for Trinity, 1450-1550 for Pratt).

From Duke viewbook:

Profile of Class of 2007...Middle 50% Range of SAT-1/ACT Scores for Accepted Students. SAT-I Composite: 1380-1520 ACT Composite: 29-34.

slipstream, that line "I'm Rick James, bitch" is from dave chapelle, he probably didn't mean it like how you took it. It's very often used to be funny.

^^^That's interesting. And, am I missing the humor? because I sure don't see how it's funny.

dude slip chill out, you must not get out and watch stand up, or see a funny movie very often. it was like the catch phrase of our class at the end of last year

thank you everybody for seeing it was a joke. dang slip, calm down man. dont think i am stupid because my stats arnt h igh as yours. do you watch tv. man everybody has been saying that for the past year

don't worry about him, just cuz he got in early decision. he doesnt know anything about what goes on behind closed doors, in fact no one does. when someone says you don't have a chance or it is a safety they have no damn clue.

Although they do give extra consideration to URM's, it probably isn't enough to make up for your GPA and SAT I/II's. Have you been taking the hardest courseload possible? How many AP's have you taken out of all AP's offered?

Are you aiming for arts/sciences or engineering?

yeah man. i have taken 4 a.ps and 9 honors classes. i am going for engineering.

I did not call you stupid, gatechboy. I said I would be surprised if you were admitted. Very surprised, to tell the truth.

Second, regardless of whether the line's use is widespread, I still find it inappropriate. And, as a sidenote, I have never heard it used either on television or at my school.

Farbdogg, I admit openly that I have absolutely no idea what goes on in the Duke admission office aside from what they told us at the information session and what I read in Admission Confidential. But, I do know that gatechboy's stats are well below the norm at Duke and, especially considering that he is applying to Pratt - which is more numbers-driven than Trinity - those stats will play a critical role in deciding his admission status. Also, I applied RD and not ED, if you were referring to me in that statement.

Hey, I learned something today! :D Thanks for explaining that, because I was going to ask for clarification. I wasn't sure if you were declaring your identity (I am Rick James!!! (and you are a bitch) ) or if there was some punctuation missing and you were stating that you yourself are a bitch who belongs to Rick James (I am Rick James' bitch!). Anyway, I guess I don't get out much either, because I never heard it. But I thought it was funny!

Even tho I just finished reading "Admissions Confidential" (Why else would I be on the Duke forum?) I can't accurately rate your chances. Seems to me it would depend largely on how their African American admittances were going up to that point. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were admitted. Unless someone can give more detail than the middle 50% SAT, perhaps the RANGE of the bottom 25%? perhaps the median URM SAT? then you can't really guess "chances" either.

no he has a chance, i had a friend last year, african american 3.2 gpa and a 1170 on SAT and he got into Penn last year. So as long as his essay is good i think he does have a shot.

also slip, where do you go to school, if you havent heard that you don't either a) watch tv b) live in a bubble or c) dislike anything that has to do with pop culture (which is ok)

I go to school in central FL. I a) do watch tv, although not as much as I used to b) don't live in a bubble...really c) am really good at the trends questions in Trivial Pursuit 90s edition :) I must say, though, that I avoid Comedy Central (except MadTV) like the plague.

gatechboy, would you please post your ECs and tell us what you think your biggest hook is? I think a more holistic review may be in order. also, you said 2 of your recs were from Duke alumni. How do you know these people - teachers?
