Dues for fraternities

How much are dues in average for fraternities, and how much are they for top tier fraternities, specifically SAE? Is it cheaper to live in the houses? Are students on financial aid generally financially able to join fraternities?

I hesitate to give a price but for the better, more socially active houses, you could expect chapter dues of at least $1000, plus national dues and other fees on top of that. The Greek life website quotes “$800 – $1400 per semester.”

There are several fraternities that are less socially active and have significantly cheaper dues.

I think the housing policy is unique for each fraternity. From my understanding, for the majority of the houses, you will pay the same amount for housing that you would as if you were living elsewhere on campus. If that money is more than is necessary to pay for the house, the chapter may give you a discount on your dues. There’s only room for 6 brothers in every house though.

If finances are a concern, this is something you would want to discuss with fraternity members once you have been rushing a while and are well liked.
