Why is Duke #6 when we are 11-1 but UNC is #2 and they are only 9-1? ***?

Uh, Duke doesn't have that much talent this year. They haven't really beat anybody of note besides Gonzaga, which was close. While UNC lost to Zaga, Duke lost to Marquette, and has been involved in more close games. It's too early in the year to rank based primarily on record; Duke lost their best players, while UNC retained theirs and had a better incoming class.

UF - UNC is decidedly better on paper... And I was at the Kent State game and...it was not the stuff of which confidence is made :) Still and all, I hope both do really well, except for two (at least) games where I kinda hope UNC blows it ;)

elpope is correct. why should duke be higher right now? if anything, there are more than 5 teams other teams that should be ranked ahead of them

so many things to go into...

Duke has fewer quality wins and their loss was to a good, but not great team. Not to mention that NC was ranked higher in the begining. Really, these rankings mean very little.

If any team should have a gripe, it should be the mid-majors. Esp. teams like Butler, who before their loss to Indiana St. deserved to be ranked in the top 10 easily.

Yeah, I've had quite a few heart attacks watching basketball this year. I also agree that we're probably ranked higher than we should be. Still, I think that in time that will change, as in we either will not be able to keep ourselves to the high caliber of play/teamwork which is reflected in a #6 ranking (less preferred, obviously), or we will pull through (hey, I'm an optimist).

Having said that, I'm REALLY excited for the Duke/UNC game... I'm going back to school early to start tenting for it!

LOL yeah, OSUforME...

Ultimate Frisbee, College basketball rankings are not based soley based on record (at least less so than College football). It is all about who you played and how you beat (or lost) to them.

elpope, You couldn't be more wrong in saying that Duke dosen't have much talent this year. What an inexcusable comment... While Duke may not have any current super stars on our team, we sure as hell have some future ones. Let me give you the roster breakdown : 6 Freshman, 6 Sophomores, 1 Junior (DeMarcus Nelson), and 1 Senior (He does not play much less start). Duke is a wealth of talent, just give Coach K a year or two to develop it.
