hi everyone, im thinking of applying to this Duke AB program with two additional essays under the additional information of the common app. just becuz its so competitive. bad idea or good idea, and reasons? thanks everybody!!!

one is 350 words and the other is 510. my common app long essay is 650.

can anyone respond please?

You definitely don’t want to attach two separate essays (!) to the CommonApp. The “Additional Information” section is really only for adding additional awards/qualifications for which there wasn’t enough space on the application, or to clarify something about the applicant that the spaces provided on the CommonApp did not give room to communicate. If you submit three essays in total on your CommonApp, most if not all colleges you apply to will not read the additional two essays, and it may end up hurting your chances. Just make the one required essay count, and hope for the best.

isnt the common app limit 500 words?

First of all, there is no separate application to the Duke AB scholarship. Each student is considered for various merit scholarships, when they apply to Duke.

As quoted from the website, abduke.org, “But the applicant who demonstrates exceptional promise, intellectual hunger, and an inquisitive spark may be considered a candidate for the A.B. Duke Scholarship.”

Basically, you have to extremely exceptional academically, not just within your school community, but also within the entire United States.

ok thanks a lot guys!! yeah i’ll probably delete one of the essays under additional info. the other one is about family stuff, idk. should i delete that one too?
