Help on Duke supplement!

Hey everyone, I wrote a why duke essay just by having the PDF copy of Supplement A. I never did anything on the Common App until now...I went to the Common App and filled out the Duke Supplement A form. Everything went fine, until I got to the part where you have to copy your Why Duke? essay into the given text box.
It had this 1500 Character limit and that is like 280-300 words! I felt defeated just because I thought I had a good essay. It isn't like an incredibly long crazy 1000 word essay that some people have.

I swear that some of my good friends who applied ED had MUCH longer why duke essays than 300 words. Am I missing something???

can you simply put, "see attached" and attach your essay separately? that's what i have been doing for every college (i called the adcoms and they said it was fine as long as the essays weren't ridiculously long)

thanks toydarian. that makes me feel a lot better. where do you attach it though if you are submitting with the common app online???

You could either put part of it in the "additional information" box, or say that you're going to mail it to them separately.

lol dally. I truly never thought of that and am honestly considering mailing it now or additional info...But, do you think that would be bad for my overall application??? If i didn't put it in the specific text box

I think if it's well-written, and not just rambling for 1000 words, then it shouldn't hurt your chances. I would probably mail it in separately... if you're worried, you could always call the Duke admissions people and ask them!

character count is different than word count.
i believe my essay was around 500 words, i think...but you have to count all your characters (words and spaces).

My Why Duke? essay was only one paragraph and a little over 300 words (the supplement said to limit the essay to one or two paragraphs) but it answered the question with enthusiasm! :D
