I find that odd b/c my parents (just like yours, of Asian descent) would care much more about the Ivy League label than the USNWR rankings… They don’t really care much about the USNWR since it is not a concrete ranking accepted/approved by everyone…

Anyway, as I said earlier and even after reading all the posts, I think Brown would be a better fit for you. (Unless you are conservative… Brown tends to me very liberal…)

Hey I’m also choosing between Duke and Brown (having a REALLY hard time), and this thread was a huge help.

I’m very similar to mihan in terms of interests, and I also have asian parents (pretty chill for asian parents, though), and right now am leaning towards Brown. Their neuroscience is great, but there are a couple of other good reasons to consider them. For a school of its size, it has a HUGE range of subjects and departments (WAY more majors available than at duke), and from what ive heard its one of the easiest places to double major.

This is a more personal reason, but I also felt that I clicked with the Brown pre-froshes better. Although I met some great kids at duke, there is a more clear division into the ‘fratty’ kids (hate to characterize, bit of an exaggeration) and the bookish group (mainly asian). At Brown there wasnt any division like that, and everyone seemed a lot more friendly and idealistic.

That being said, I’ve heard that Duke has a slightly better health advising office, better weather, better food, and more spirit.
