Duke College Rankings for 2010!

Yeah, I barely care about the USNWR rankings, but nonetheless think it'll be cool to predict what Duke will be next year.

This year we are 8th in the nation. What do you think we will be next year? Up/down, etc.?

I say we move up to 6th because some of the ones above us suffered so much in their endowments, which will affect them in the rankings. Duke suffered a small bit, but not nearly as much.

You obviously care enough about USNWR rankings to make a thread about how highly ranked your school is.

I don’t really see the top ten changing all that much…

Yale and possibly Stanford might pass Princeton, I guess.

To be honest, who really cares about that, though? As long as it’s in a generally accepted area, it’s not anything to worry about.

Blueducky take a chill pill bud I care enough about it to discuss it but not to use it to base my decision for college (chose Duke over UPenn and Stanford, etc.).

like someone said above, i don’t see the top 10 changing that much… If anything, I don’t think Duke will go down in rakings since it has seen one of the greatest increases in applications this year…

When do the 2010 rankings come out anyways?

you wouldn’t choose duke over stanford or whatnot because duke isn’t higher ranked than them. duh. hahah i AM chill.

lol ok you seemed angry :P

Duke moves up to 7th, out of its tie for 8th with UofC

Penn and Princeton’s acceptance rates didn’t decrease drastically like the other Ivies. I’d foresee Duke possibly as high as 6.

I didn’t know the other Ivies had a decreased acceptance rate…

Pretty much all of them had decreased acceptance rates… Brown’s the most, from like 20% to 10%

FYI decrease - verb - become lesser in size or amount

soo when do the new rankings come out?

Duke put a huge boatload of people on their Waitlist this year so they could keep their acceptance rate down, while holding on to the possibility of taking people off waitlist if those accepted couldn’t pay due to the economy. It seemed like a clever strategy to me.

I disagree about their endowment. They have lost a lot of money in amount and percentage.

“While Duke is not a state-supported school, the economic downturn has walloped that university’s endowment, which declined in value from $6 billion in July 2008 to about $4 billion in April. That’s forced the university to look for ways to cut costs.”

$6 B to $4B… They lost 1/3… Wow! That is severe!

[Raleigh-Durham area hasn’t dodged this recession - Triangle Business Journal:](http://triangle.bizjournals.com/triangle/stories/2009/05/04/story3.html?b=1241409600^1821873)

Here is the actual link

Most of the top ranked schools have lost endowment in the 25-30% range. Just Harvard has lost more than Duke’s total endowment

The rankings are controlled by the northeasterners. Look at the LAC and National University rankings. How many schools listed are from the Northeast?

In any case, any school in the top 25 much less the top 10 have really done something. Not much difference between 6th and 8th really. Then there’s the reputation. How many movies do you see referencing Duke as somebodies undergraduate degree? When they want to make a point about being a very accomplishedhard-working person they always say they graduated from Harvard. And since the movies are controlled by Harvard trained lawyers this will never change.

^
are you for real?

yep. what makes you feel not?

“The rankings are controlled by the northeasterners.”
…

“In any case, any school in the top 25 much less the top 10 have really done something.”
huh?

“Not much difference between 6th and 8th really.”
Agreed, for the most part.

“Then there’s the reputation. How many movies do you see referencing Duke as somebodies undergraduate degree? When they want to make a point about being a very accomplishedhard-working person they always say they graduated from Harvard.”
Good point.

“And since the movies are controlled by Harvard trained lawyers this will never change.”
…What?..
