Duke committee begins this week.

I exchanged a few emails recently, and found that Duke will go into committee this week.

Good luck everyone!

just think: While you were sitting at school today, you may have been accepted (or rejected) to (from) Duke! Or maybe it was while you were in the bathroom! Perhaps it was when you were checking out that hot girl (guy) in your class! Whatever the case may be, it's all out of your hands now.

^^^you just made me really nervous

You sure they haven't started already? It's almost March! They must have started some time in early February for sure! Any opinions?

no it's not that they didn't "start" before, it's just that they have different rounds. First individual admissions counsellors look over the applications from their assigned region (there may or may not be a round of elimination after this, I don't know) and then starting at some point, if mercurysquad is correct that point is this week, the top admissions officers will discuss the cases that made the first cut (if there was one, which I suspect there was) and make the final decisions. Most of the people here are probably good enough to make the first cut, so your final decisions are most likely going to be made pretty soon! It will probably be soon because there has to be time for financial aid to do stuff for the acceptees.

yeah, I made the first cut during the ED round, just not the second...
On a brighter note, Duke called my high school during the vacation. I don't know what it was about yet, though, because my counselor has not been in to school yet (we start again on wednesday). I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though. Good luck to everyone!

How do you know which cut you made it through?
I've been having those thoughts about the first readers since January. "They could be reading my essay right now...What are they thinking???" Pretty cool actually to be considered for a place at a top school...unless if they laughed at my app...

My counselor called the rep after I was deferred and that was what he told her.

The email was about missing items, and when I said it'd take time, the other person said "we can only allow you a few more days (until feb 28th) as the selection committee starts meeting next week".

After I faxed in the missing items, she said that my app will be "moved forward, i.e. reading/evaluating in the next day or so" (which means it's been read by now).

I think all the apps have been read and now they'll make the final decisions.
I'm an international applicant who also applied for aid, so that may make it different.
