!!!! =) Made it to Committee!!!

Yay, my principal got a call from the admissions officer and apparently I am in her admit pile and am now going to committee which starts next week! Great news for me!! Has anyone else gotten word yet?

Also, does anyone have any idea what percentage get to committee and what percentage of applicants get rejected at this point?

do they notify all administrators if a student "makes it to committee?"

EVERY college does it differently. Harvard claims that 100% of all apps go to committee, but that does not necessarily mean everyone is discussed. The committee could just bless the admit/reject list on a daily basis. According to Michelle Hernandez, Dartmouth used to have two readers, who would then fwd their recommendation to the Dean. In Dartmouth's case, only the bubble applicants were discussed by committee. Of course, that was a couple of years ago.

does duke do this for all??

freaks out

I love Duke, but the 17% increase in apps?!?!?!?!??!?

From what I remembered after talking to my regional adcom a couple years ago, each regional adcom reads the apps from his/her area of responsibility. The decision however is made by the committee. The regional adcom makes recommendations and comments to the committee which then admits or rejects. In that case, everyone should get to the committee.

Well, he told me that basically, I was in her list of ones she was going to promote heavily -- so basically I didn't get weeded out by the adcom. From what I understood, she calls all of the administrators for kids in a potential acceptance group. I am doubting she calls EVERY applicant's administrator.

This may be useful:
HowStuffWorks "College Admissions"

note: It's Duke-specific

I don't doubt that she's very selective about who she calls, however I find the fact that she even bothers to call to be slightly unusual. It's likely that not every regional officer does this or even a majority as this is the first time I'm even heard of someone getting notified in this way. In any case congratulations all the same.

Well, I can understand why I'd be one called. Basically she wanted to check on my character.. because my counselor gave me bad marks & I have been suspended 1 time. My principal likes me, so I think I am set.
