these kids gotta learn to bet on themselves because if they cant believe in themselves then how do they expect anyone else to? thats my mentality going into this
@Eva12344 hopefully youre right- i applied for aid but only with FAFSA and did not get an email
@coffeedependent to receive any financial aid from Duke to have to submit the CSS profile along with the FAFSA form. That’s a requirement from Duke.
@coffeedependent @kamalk is correct. The only way you will ever be considered for financial aid at Duke is by submitted both the FAFSA and CSS profile
I applied for financial aid and submitted Fafsa and my CSS profile on time, but I have not gotten the IDOC request. Kinda worried ?
they probably just already had enough info for you. Don’t worry about it @Jacksgaps
She also said not to worry about the number of other students applying from your school. Duke, she claims, does not look at the school, or at the number of students. They read student by student, and just because they have not accepted students from a certain school does not mean you cannot get in. It’s all about the student and what they are looking for. They hold not grudges against certain high schools. Last year, they accepted 8 students from a school in Austin, TX. It really depends on the students, not the school or the number of students applying from a given school. You are competing against thousands of other students, not just the ones at your school. Hope this helps!
The only reason someone would need to complete IDOC is if your submitted financial aid docs aren’t in order. If they are in order and there is no need for further clarification from your target institutions, then it is my understanding that an IDOC request and subsequent submission is not needed. Nothing to worry about if you ask me.
I just read somewhere on this site that Duke tends to notify accepted applicants on the Thursday before the stated 12/15 notification deadline. Found this quote in last year’s article, published on Thursday, 12/14/17:
“Starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, students will be able to receive their decisions online.”
https://today.duke.edu/2017/12/duke-accepts-875-early-decision-applicants
Interesting to note that most of the accepted ED candidates were from NC - that should make NC applicants happy to know!
Anyway, If they alert applicants on a Thursday again, ED applicants may have their answer a week from tonight.
Good luck! :)>-
@DukeNasty Will not submitting financial aid documents on time affect the admissions decision, or will it only affect your financial aid package?
If today is Monday, Dec. 3rd, how do you get a week from tonight being a Thursday? My weeks are 7-days long.
*North Carolina is the state with the greatest representation, which isn’t unusual since North Carolina, making up around 15% of each class size, is supposed to be the state with the greatest representation in the class as well.
@LuvsLabs “most of accepted ED applicants were from NC.” This implies greater than 50%. NC applicants hold a plurality of acceptances, not a majority.
@Obliviostar Good point.
Yup - badly stated, but you got the intended meaning. Thanks for correcting me.
I also said applicants would know a week from TONIGHT, instead of Thursday Night. No one should listen to me today - our Seeing Eye puppy, who my son raised for the past 15 months, was returned for her formal training this morning and my heart is broken since we’ll never see her again.
Actually Duke received 20% more ED applicants this year, yet they are only taking the same amount of students as last year. (Duke Undergraduate Admissions sent a letter explaining this to our school counselor)
@tradewinds I’m sorry, but I cant tell. For clarification what are you “actually-ing?”
Not requesting financial aid should have no affect on your application. Not completing your financial aid documents when making a financial aid request means that all of the things on the application checklist are not complete. Not good. I imagine there is some leeway, but it is better to be safe than sorry and complete things per the stated deadlines.
@DukeNasty On the IDOC email, it just says that the financial aid package may be delayed or denied, but nothing really about the application. I thought financial aid was separate from admissions?
