Our efc for Duke is 10K higher than the estimate. It is the only school where the efc is materially different than the school's calculator. Is this common? Should we bring to their attention? Has anyone had luck with the FA office changing a number and thus resulting in better FA?

I appealed my daughters FA for her first year and they did lower the costs. It doesnt cost anything to appeal.

Just fyi, we called and Duke reviewed our FA after having us fill some more info for them. They quickly revised the FA!

I suspect that Duke and other Universities understand the great demand for their education. Which gives them a lot of leverage, at first at least, to lowball FA. Having said that, it is quite decent of Duke to reconsider FA and revise up. GL

Our EFC was slightly lower than the NPC predicted, which was a pleasant surprise.

I emailed the FA office anyway to request a review of a few items. Their response was polite but they did not change our offer.
