Can any Dukies share their financial aid experience with me?

My EFC = $0

What kinda aid do u think i can get?
DUke says that they meet 100% demonstrated need but its a little tricky as they state: "through grants, scholarships or loans"

edit:
$18000 income
maybe $400 in the bank
no assets
broke as f

Duke financial aid has treated me well. I'm not sure what my EFC is, but my family didn't pay a cent to Duke this semester. I will probably graduate with about $20,000 in loans. You'll get that at pretty much every school if you don't pay up front though.

If your EFC is 0, then Duke will give you the max amount they can - the full cost of attendance which is around $43000 I believe. Also, if you don't have health insurance, they will pay for that too - an additional $1500 but you must request it. Talk to your financial aid counselor - they will go over the details. Also, when I say they'll "give" you the max amount, that amount is not just all grants, there's a bunch of stuff mixed in including work study (you have to get a job to get that money), loans (I'd say its about 30-40% loans), and the rest is free money in the form of grants. Some of the loans are subsidized, meaning that they dont accrue interest until AFTER you graduate, but others are unsubsidized so you accrue interest on those WHILE you are IN school. Again, each person's circumstances vary, so its best to talk to your fin aid counselor about your unique situation

I'm pretty sure no matter what ur EFC is they won't give you 100% of the cost. They will give you grants, loans and work study. No one goes for free.
