Statistical noise is not “facts”.
My husband is a Duke graduate, and my daughter is at Rice. Both schools are terrific. You can’t go wrong with either choice. They are very different schools in feel and atmosphere. Which one is the best fit for your personality? Do you want Greek life or not? Duke has it, Rice does not. Rice has the residential college system sort of like the houses in Harry Potter. Rice has Division 1 football and basketball teams, but attendance at games is sparse. The Rice baseball team gets the most spectators. Duke has the Cameron crazies and a respectable football team. Rice is in the middle of the prettiest part of Houston, Duke is in a smaller city. Both are good for premed. Go with your gut and not rankings. Are both equally affordable for you and your family?

FWIW the OP hasn’t been back to CC since April 8.
Yup @happy1 - mentioned that back in posts 5/6. And the OP started a similar thread elsewhere and hasn’t returned there either. Hope she is happy with whatever she decided.
@jym626 Sorry, I didn’t see that. And I agree.
No worries. We obviously agree
Regarding Parchment, you have to consider that Duke has about 1.7X as many undergraduates as Rice. I would expect more students to select Duke even if the two schools are equally selective from a stats standpoint (SAT, rank, GPA). That said, even if you adjust for this, it appears Duke is a bit more selective.
And it needs to be taken with a grain of salt: http://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Virginia+Commonwealth+University&with=Duke+University
^ What sense does that make?
Parchment is only looking at decisions made by students who have offers from both schools. Berkeley can have 10 times as many students as Princeton but if all the students who are admitted to both schools choose Princeton, the data will reflect that.
Duke alum and parent here. I love Duke. That being said, one of my kids (now a Duke grad) visited Rice and I was blown away. It was my favorite school to visit, of every single one of my many visits, and I think it is fantastic place. I My daughter picked Duke over Rice, but if she had picked Rice, I would have been just as happy. I do think Duke is one of the best for pre-med in the country, and the immediate availability of the hospital and research labs makes it easy to build a medical school resume. Rice though has a different housing model, is smaller, is in a bigger city, and a different feel to it. I don’t think you can seriously say that going to Rice for pre-med is a mistake.
