1) What is the first thing you think of when you hear "Yale"?
2) What is the first thing you think of when you hear "Duke"?
3) Of these two, which would you rather attend?

lastly, has anyone attended either of these who can offer some perspective on their merits?

New Haven sucks

A bit snobby, but cool school

I'd go to Duke (even though I'm a liberal guy). It seems like an awesome place. And yes you should apply to both but if you have to decide one to apply to because of early admissions... well I would go Duke, but that's just me.

1) What is the first thing you think of when you hear "Yale"?
Residential colleges; ugly campus; better than Harvard
2) What is the first thing you think of when you hear "Duke"?
North Carolina; fun school; prestigious; "will kill the next person who mentions lacrosse"
3) Of these two, which would you rather attend?
It would be an extremely tough choice but I would pick Yale unless Duke offered me a merit scholarship.

I actually did apply to both. Duke was much closer to home and was a much better fit for my interests, especially in terms of its biology program. I'm a sophomore doing publishable research; you can't do that everywhere.

I am not sure about all this. When schools are of this caliber shouldn't a person really be thinking about which fits their personality and not which one has "better academics" They are both so good/ Pick based on how you like them and not based on the fact that Duke isn't ranked quite as high in USNEWS. They are both so good already.

Did I ever say I was looking at the rankings? I have visited Yale and I have friends who go to both Yale and Duke. This is what I have gathered, on top of doing my own research. Apparently on this thread most agree with me.
