Duke Postal Service Address/ Box #

I just received my box # for my first year at Duke, and I'm wondering if this address is an indicator as to what dorm I'm staying. For example, does a box # of 32030 mean you are staying in Randolph? Thanks.

I highly doubt it. FOCUS acceptances, for example, just came out yesterday. It’s hard to place students without knowing who will be participating in the FOCUS program or not and I doubt they were able to place all students within 24 hours of the FOCUS acceptances coming out. Just my opinion, though. I just feel like this is another one of those things like the time stamp on the Duke website to check whether you got in or not back in late March…reading into something that has nothing to read into. I bet it’s more likely that its alphabetical or something.

Yeah, there is no correlation between box # and dorm. Your freshman P.O. Box is randomly assigned and located in the basement of East Union building on East Campus (where the Marketplace is). As collegehappy said, there is no way housing is done or even close to being done. I think I read somewhere that they actually do the housing for FOCUS students before any other assignments, so the process likely just got underway.

Where did you guys find out about your box number? Did it come in the mail?

^duke email account

hmmm…i haven’t gotten an email yet. did we have to sign up for one or all freshmen assigned one?

I believe that the only people that know which dorms they are in are athletes. One of my friends is going to play for Duke Soccer and he knows which dorm he is staying in. I think athletes are also given the best/better dorms (the ones that are spacious and have A/C), although I don’t know which ones (my friend said his dorm has all the perks of a hotel). They get such good treatment.

spacious, has A/C, is like a hotel? That’s belltower

So did we have to sign up for a box or are all freshmen automatically given a box? I never got an email.

I know that there is a $27 dollar fee for the box, but I think it is assessed to all freshmen (perhaps even all Duke students) because I never signed up for it or anything.

it’s automatically charged to your bursar’s account and shows up on your statement.

Ok thanks! Do you know by any chance who I should contact if I never received a box number?

first check ACES, on the Student Center tab (the first tab), under Personal Information (near the bottom) check whether a box number is listed under mailing address.

Then wait for a few days as they may not be finished processing all box assignments. If you still haven’t gotten anything after a while then go here and try to contact them using the info in Contact Us:

[Duke Postal Operations](http://postoffice.duke.edu/)

I just went to my ACES and I do not see a box number. I will wait a couple days like you said, and will contact them if I do not receive a box. Thanks again!

No problem, the thing is that the box # is pretty much irrelevant right now because it’s not open and won’t be until move in day. Even if you don’t get a number over the summer, you will get a mailbox key in the welcome packet that you pickup on move in day along with your room key and that’ll let you know everything. So just sit tight and worry about the more immediate stuff like bookbagging, registration, roommates, dorm assignments, etc. (or just enjoy your summer)

I wouldn’t count on the box # showing up on ACES anytime soon. I got an e-mail from Postal Operations more than 2 months ago with my new box number (you get one on West Campus after freshman year), but ACES still shows my old box. Pretty sure the P.O. boxes don’t open up until August 7th, so it’s not very urgent. I’d probably just give it a few more weeks and contact them if you still haven’t received anything.
