Does anyone know when will they send notification for A.B Duke Scholar interview?

Mid March.

Schoolfinder, did you get a likely letter from Duke? If so, you will see in there that scholarship finalists will hear by mid-March. If you didn't get one then you're not going to be a scholarship finalist. But anyway, wait till mid-March to be 100% certain.

yes, my daughter received a likely letter. Thanks for pointing out.

MallomarCookie,

Just to clarify - so you're saying that if an applicant did not receive a likely letter from Duke, then it means that the applicant is not being considered for the Duke Scholarship?

Thanks

^That is correct.

yep jennifer. They sent likely letters to 350 people. The majority of those people will be invited to visit Duke but a lucky few of them will be invited to a scholarship weekend. There are 60 full tuition scholarships available...

... 30 of which are only available to NC residents I believe.

does Duke consider scholarships and financial aid separately??? For instance, if I need 30,000 and obtain a scholarship, will they just subtract the amounts?

that is correct. if you have scholarship you have less need.

Really, Weasel? Sweet!

Not so sweet for me :(

yeah Mallomar, its pretty sweet. Better still though, some scholarships give first priority to specific counties or areas of the state. I can't find a link online but I got a sheet when I was visiting Duke that listed them. There are scholarships for High Point, Greensboro, Alamance County, Lexington, Mooresville, Winston-Salem, and Carteret County. Some of them can be given to people from other areas (ie the Winston one can go to someone from Forsyth County) if no one in the first preference area is chosen.

Last year my son received a likely letter and an invitation for scholarship weekend (A.B. Duke) around the same time (in fact, he might have received the scholarship invitation a day earlier), and I believe it was around the end of the first week in March. I remember that he was very surprised, because so many students on CC had already received likely letters. I don't know if anyone else last year had the same experience or if our experience was a fluke. However, even if you haven't received a likely letter yet, I wouldn't totally give up hope! Good luck to all of you.

Do you know how many were invited to the scholarship interviews?

I'm pretty sure likely letters and Duke scholarship considerations are completely separate. I think the admissions office is still in the process of reviewing applications. Obviously if they haven't read your application yet and you are a great candidate you would not have received a likely letter. However, you still can get scholarship consideration.

That's my impression too. Last year I think 40 applicants were invited for the A.B. scholarship weekend. Fifteen were chosen.

Well in our likely letter it says that 350 received the letter. Most of that 350 would be invited to visit Duke for Duke Up Close. It said that some of that 350 would be selected to attend scholarship finalist weekends. Apparently we will hear by mid-March whether we make the latter group.

Has anybody received A.B Duke finalist notification?

Notification letters should go out at the end of the week. :)
