No, not true at all!! No!
There's a guy at my school who has been accepted ED to Duke and is up for the BN Duke Scholarship, for Carolina students (north and south). I kind of wondered? Why would Duke offer him this chance, when he is obviously in a committed sort of way. But, if he speaks the truth, he will be there at the Scholarship weekend.

Well all I'm saying is that if you've lived in the carolinas and "dislike the South" yourself, I think you may know what I'm talking about. But now I am more into Duke than a couple days ago. Plus I LOVE mallomars, so we're all good :-)

My friend got in ED and is an AB scholar here. I don't believe they know if you applied ED or RD when the initially evaluate applications for finalists.

I only dislike the South because it's "slower" and doesn't have big cities like San Francisco, which I happen to love. I have never been to Charleston, though, and I hear it's quite a nice city.
The one thing I haven't seen or experienced here is the "Confederate" stuff you mentioned.

So far everyone has posted here for the BN Duke and the AB Duke scholarships, who else has received a finalist position for the University Scholar's Program? It seems like the USP gives a lesser dollar amount than the other two. Does this indicate USP finalists are less sought after than AB Duke finalists?
