I'm starting Duke next year and I've grown up in Charlottesville, Virginia not New Jersey, or anywhere up North like pretty much everyone else there. So I was wondering what people wore at Duke? Like where they shop and what are the things that you see over and over again (Like at UVA you always see Rainbows, and Totebags, from Vera Bradley and L.L. Bean). Anything will help, I wanna fit in lol!
Thanks!

You'll see those things at Duke, too. But don't worry so much about fitting in. Duke has thousands of students and if you dress normally I'm sure you'll find that a fair number of other Dukies will be doing the same. Rainbows are pretty popular up here, as are those Vera Bradleys, and Polo/Lacoste/RL/etc. But plain old good fashion sense is accepted everywhere. No need to be drawn to certain brands just to fit in. Dress well, and you'll be fine.
And what do you mean you're starting Duke? The school year for 2010s has started already, but you can't have been admitted already for the class of 2011...are you an athlete?

you see SO much of the same style as in uva. seriously -- zillions of totes, rainbows, lilly, polo whatever.
a lot of my friends are the nyc/la set, so while there's the totebag or the rainbows or whatever, they're more trendy than preppy.

Old person question: What are Rainbows? I'm assuming they're not just multi-colored arc segments painted on things....

Ahhh - thanks. I do think it's funny one of the colors is "Blackforest Brown." I would have gone for "Blackforest Black," or "Blackforest Green," even... Meantime, I get my flip-flops at the Targee' and save the other $32.50 for music :)

free t-shirts are the best

Thank you so much! Haha ok good I'll fit in lol! Yeah I am an athlete I play Tennis. I'm on my senior year in High School now. I go to St.Anne's Belfield btw.

*When I mean athlete I mean I'm going to be playing for Duke.

I neglected to pay close attention to the original question - or rather, the original phrasing... Please see Class of 2010 Profile to demonstrate that not everyone here is from The North :) It'd be fine if they were, or if everyone were from South Dakota, it just doesn't happen to be the case.

DukeEgr93 - since this is only the Class of 2010 it doesn't give a good portrait of the entire Duke undergrad population. It would be very helpful if Admissions would post the information for each class or for the undergrad population as a whole. I'm surprised they have not done so.

Actually, there are two years up at the admissions site:
Class of 2010
Class of 2009

Changes aren't huge:
North Carolina 13% to 14%
Northeast 15% to 14%
Mid-Atlantic 19% to 19%
Southeast 25% to 24%
Midwest 12% to 10%
West and Pacific 10% to 11%
International 6% to 8%

I would say that each year is a pretty good snapshot of the whole, overall...
