Duke University Physics

Hey guys so I’m a junior enrolled in a dual enrollment program with my community college, and I’m definitely going to be a physics major, I hope lol. And I really want to go to Duke, now I know that Duke’s rank for physics isn’t high on websites like “US News”, but I could really care less, I always wanted to go to Duke and I would work hard either way. Plus I believe those rankings are only for graduate school, but I could be wrong. Anyways, I heard that Duke doesn’t get a lot of physics majors (Please correct me if im wrong lol). But would this help increase my chances of getting chosen for Duke? Obviously it also depends on grades, test scores, and EC’s and stuff, but just in general, lol. I just would really like to know, also would applying ED help me more???. Thanks.

Good for you! However, Duke (unlike many other schools) does not consider major in admissions decisions. A candidate applies for either Pratt or Trinity, and formal major declaration normally does not take place until the the third (or even the fourth) semester is completed. In addition, ED provides a clear (although, not a huge) acceptance advantage.

Second what TopTier says above. That said… have you seen this? Duke is investing $100 million in a new Physics & Engineering building … http://www.dukechronicle.com/articles/2015/04/29/duke-build-100-million-physics-and-engineering-facility#.VUOv7vlViko
