personally i would choose Duke, even if they didn't give me any money. st louis isn't my type of place...and Georgetown, it's a good school, but i like Duke better

good luck...u cant go wrong either way...congrats

even though duke may be a better school than the other two, (i visited when there werent students) my friend visited during the school year and hated it. the students were rude and unhelpful. the campus just felt unwelcoming. she said that most people were stuck up and really just didnt want to or felt the need to help out a few lost kids. she also found the adminstration to be a little short and just came back with an overall feeling of hatred towards the school. i would suggest you visit and see for urself. i have a friend who goes there who hated it for the first two years and then finally liked it by her junior year. i guess it really depends. its in the south and a lotta people just arent ready for the south =P

There is no real reason in my mind why anyone would choose Wash U, probably the most overrated school in the country, over Duke and Georgetown. But since Duke is giving you the $$, I say go there.

flamethrower - south is just stereotypically and when i was there it really was 1) very conservative 2) not very tolerant 3) not very welcoming people but its really from everyone's own perspectives i know plenty of people happy at both duke and gtown and plenty of people unhappy =P

is there a very distinct conservative streak @ duke?
cos i've heard most universities tend to be quite liberal.
besides the students come from all over the coountry and world, so technically wouldnt it be a fair mix of conservatives and liberals?

my friend's at duke and he said that during the election, there was a good balance of dems and repubs.. probably leaning more towards the democrats though. however, being in the south evidently has a significant impact on the political views of duke students..

p.s. flamethrower, you should probably visit the universities if you can and decide for yourself. you got into some really amazing schools! it is safe to say that you will get a fabulous education wherever you decide to go. visit and see where you feel at home.. where you really want to go.. what makes you feel like you belong there.

I'm not trying to promote you to go to washu, after all Duke and Georgetown are really good schools. I'm just saying don't immediately take someone's side who toured it and says they like or hate it. Talk to people live near by and are involved with the school like me, or even better look at student reviews and talk to students who go to these schools.
