Hello! I’m interested in Econs/IR/Public Policy/Pol Sc and am wondering how Brown compares to the other 2 schools. (I’m aware that I’m posting in a Brown forum=), but am still interested in your comments!)
Also, how large are introductory classes in the above-mentioned areas? Thanks!

how much do you like Duke Basketball?

I guess Duke basketball is not the main draw for me if I'm considering Duke. I'm comparing these schools more in terms of academics in the above-mentioned areas, graduate opportunities, flexibility of curriculum. Probably also international recognition (since I'm international). But I'm not saying that Duke basketball is not important at all; it is an important part of their school culture after all.
Maybe I should focus on Econs-how do the 3 schools compare with one another? I'm trying to look for some sort of ranking for Econs, but haven't been able to find one.

Brown has a very different feel from Duke. Duke is sort of a cross between University of Pennsylvania and University of Virginia. Brown feels more like a cross between a Yale and Amherst. Duke is more preprofessional, while Brown seems more culturally oriented.

truthfully - they are all top notch, will get you equally into top grad schools, will get you the same job. Guess what? You get to pick on lifestyle because the academic difference is moot.

My pick would be Brown, especially for an international.

agree that amherst and brown are more comparable and duke is an outlier (though all share overlaps)

both brown and amherst have open curricula--a huge draw if that is exciting to you. strangely, even though amherst is a LAC, i felt (i most of my friends agreed) that brown is a much friendlier place
