I got accepted to both schools recently, and I am extremely excited. Now, it comes to the decision between these two schools. I really like both schools, and I am having trouble deciding between the two. I plan on majoring in economics in conjunction with computer science or statistics. As a result, I believe flexibility is essential to study a myriad of subjects. I probably will end up pursuing a job in banking, so recruiting would definitely be an important factor. I'm also a fervent basketball fan, and have been following Duke basketball for years. I think balance between academics and social activities is crucial. Brown is closer to my home, and that is a positive for my parents. I don't have any preference for a certain type of weather. Would there be any disparities in grad school opportunities between these two schools? Lastly, is there any gap in prestige between these two schools? I know Brown is an Ivy, but Duke is absolutely phenomenal as well. I appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Attend both admit day events and see where you are a better fit. Both are fantastic schools. Brown’s open curriculum will give you lots of flexibility to double major.

Okay, sounds like a good idea! Do you think I should be factoring job placement as a major factor for my decision? Thanks!

I think Duke has the stronger alumni network, more balanced students, etc.

Flexbility - Brown
iBank recruiting - Duke

But make sure you know what investing banking is about (it seems to me a lot of people want to get into the industry but many of them have wrong idea of what is it about) and what sort of people fit into that industry, if you are going to pick a school based on the job placement.

Those are great points! I completely agree about having the right perception and knowledge about the investment banking industry. If I was switch my interests of study, would then Brown be more advantageous?

If you’re very self-disciplined, Brown is fantastic and you’ll get a ton out of it. If you’re a slacker, Brown will let you slack.

Duke has better alumni network and much better school spirit.

Grad school and job placement from both will be great and not predictably stronger at one vs other. Sounds like Duke has your heart. Coach K says he’s planning to hang around another 5 years - just in time for you to graduate. Duke sounds like it has your heart. Be careful not to overthink/over analyze here. Hope you like Blue.

There is already a Brown v Duke thread from you I have posted in.
