I got accepted to both schools recently, and I am extremely excited. Now, it comes to the decision between these two schools. I really like both schools, and I am having trouble deciding between the two. I plan on majoring in economics in conjunction with computer science or statistics. As a result, I believe flexibility is essential to study a myriad of subjects. I probably will end up pursuing a job in banking, so recruiting would definitely be an important factor. I'm also a fervent basketball fan, and have been following Duke basketball for years. I think balance between academics and social activities is crucial. Brown is closer to my home, and that is a positive for my parents. I don't have any preference for a certain type of weather. Would there be any disparities in grad school opportunities between these two schools? Lastly, is there any gap in prestige between these two schools? I know Brown is an Ivy, but Duke is absolutely phenomenal as well. I appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Tough but fortunate choice for you. Really you can’t/'shouldn’t go running home all the time, so don’t try to be close. I don’t think you have too much in reputation or grad school opportunity difference. If you look at the percent of student who go on within X years to grad school at Brown it is huge. You will be very close with profs to do research and have appropriate LOR. You know it doesn’t get more flexible than at Brown. Take a look at the Econ-CS major in the CS dept. OTOH it sounds like Duke will make you happy socially. That’s all I can think of. Have you visited both/get to go to accepted student days?

I have visited Brown, but not Duke yet. I plan on visiting both for their respective student days. I agree the decision is tough!
