Duke vs. Georgetown

I'm stuck deciding between Duke (Trinity) and Georgetown (the College).

Looking to study some combination of business, law, and political science, probably majoring in political science & econ undergraduate with hopes of heading to business or law school afterwards.

My original feeling was that Duke is much better all-around academically than Georgetown, with far more resources available to students (Focus & Duke Engage were particularly impressive), yet Georgetown is in DC, the perfect place to be studying political science. DC's one of my favorite places in the world, so Georgetown definitely wins location-wise in my mind.

Still, without taking into account social life or location, I'm definitely leaning towards Duke. What worries me about Duke, though, IS the social scene--I don't fit the image of an overly pretty, perfect-looking party girl, and the vibe I originally got from Duke and the people I've seen that go there is that Dukies do fall into this type. What is the student body composition of Duke REALLY like? What social scene is there for non-drinkers?

And, with regard to Georgetown--what is the quality of academia like? And what is the student body at Georgetown like as well?

Would reaaally appreciate any feedback here, if anyone knows anything about these two schools. :-)

duke > gtown by far

well, it depends on your personality. From what I gathered, Duke is more social than GT. So, if you like to wear decolletage, you will be just fine @Duke

Duke for sure.

From what I can tell, you want to go to Duke and the only thing holding you back is that Gtown is in DC, and that Dukies seem to be rowdy partiers.

Being in DC undergrad does not do you any good, it's really only grad school/law school where being in the District can further a law career.

As far as the social scene goes, both schools are similar. There are students of all types, no matter where you go. Having visited Duke, I did not get the feeling that it was overrun with hardcore partiers. I'm sure these people exist there, as they do at all schools, but it should not be a reason not to go to Duke. I'm not a party animal either and I thought Dukies were among the friendliest people I met while touring school.

Go to Duke. You can always go to GTown or GW for law school if you want to be in DC.

Given the way you describe yourself you would be happier at Georgetown, given that Georgetown is a Jesuit school it is calmer. Despite what the other other people say on this thread, Georgetown has an excllent academic rep. and the quality of the education is excellent. There should be no problem with job placement or graduate school acceptance.
