I'm really torn between these two

What are some differences between these schools socially? At visits it was hard to determine. Also, is Duke that much better academically than G'town?

bump

......

Socially the difference is greek life. Duke is dominated by it, and G'town doesn't even have it.

what are u planning to major in?

Each school has better facets. Knowing what you are planning to major in would be a great help. I can say for now that Georgetown because of its proximity to DC is a much better option if you are planning to have anything to do with politics.

Undecided major

I'm interested in Bio, but I do not definitively plan on studying it

I know a few people who decided to go to Duke over Georgetown, with financials being equal

When comparing schools within the top 30, there is not such a huge academic difference... to some degree. At least with Gtown and Duke. It also depends on the environment you prefer.... a bustling metropolis ....or a a more suburban environment. Both have great campus', and great sports teams.

I've heard from current students Duke is one of the biggest pressure cooker colleges around, and VERY competitive among classmates. You'll get a good education at either school. They work as hard as they party, but there are fewer options off-campus.

I'm from D.C., and let me assure you that the social life is active. You're in one of the hippest parts of D.C., with plenty of shopping, restaurants and clubs. And D.C. is also a good place for internships. If I had to pick purely on location, I'd go for Georgetown.

I am a graduate of both schools. Duke has the more typical undergrad college experience (housing is not an easy thing at G'Town and it impacts the feel of college life) - G'Town has the attraction of DC. I would make my decision based on academic interest, and the strength of the departments in which you want to major.
