Duke vs. Georgia Tech (President's Scholar)

I’ve been accepted to Duke and GT (with President’s Scholarship). I want to major in Biomedical Engineering. Both schools are excellent for BME, with Duke having a slight edge, but I won’t be getting much aid from Duke at all. Parents can pay for undergrad, but it will put some stress on the family. I want to go to grad school (probably for an MBA). How should I go about making my decision?

Really? You’re having trouble deciding this? GT with a President’s scholarship vs mostly pay at Duke which has a SLIGHT edge in BME and will stress your family? How are your other critical thinking processes?

@"Erin’s Dad"‌ Let’s not be unnecessarily condescending now… I asked a genuine question to which there could potentially be multiple genuine answers.

Rankings are a wash for BME…so COA is the biggest differentiator for now. Saving money now will help for Med school or an MBA.

The GTech BME is strongly aligned with the Emory School of Medicine… but I guess you knew that already. You are obviously one of the best and brightest to be offered the GTech President’s Scholarship. Since you are local and have a stellar school record, don’t underestimate the competition from OOS students; ask your seniors about this. I can assure you that you will be fully challenged.

What about MIT and JHU? Didn’t you make it to these 2? You will know about the Ivies tomorrow and then you can decide.

@i012575‌ Thanks! Didn’t get MIT and waitlisted at JHU (idk what happened), but I’ll keep my eyes open for the Ivies!

Actually, I agree with Erin’s Dad’s snarky post. Yes, let’s use our “critical thinking” skills on this. Rarely do I say there is only one “right” choice… but yeah, this is pretty darn close to there only being one “right” answer. Go to Georgia Tech and stop worrying about the fact that some stupid magazine says Duke has more “prestigi-ness” (that’s what this is about, right? RIGHT?)
