Duke vs. IIT

Well now you are just quibbling over meaningless facts that really don't change the meaning of SBR's post. It could be one IIT in India or a thousand; it still only affects a very small percentage (like so small as to be non existent) of applicants. I really doubt that there is anyone on this forum actually making this decision. (I'm convinced the OP meant Illinois)

EonBlue: I'm well aware of fact that IITs consists of multiple autonomous universities.

Actually I was referring to the whole system of IITs in India (as in IITs as a whole) but if you really want to nitpick...the acronym IIT (as used in this thread) is supposed to stand for Indian Institutes (note the plural) of Technology. Therefore, by referring to these 7 universities by the acronym (IIT), I'm automatically assuming (perhaps wrongly on my part) that the reader possesses the intelligence to know that I'm talking about them as a whole.

Note: I'm also well aware of the difference between IIT and IITs in terms of plurality. However for sake of ease of communication, it's tacitly implied in the posts in this thread that the two are interchangeable and most people can accurately determine which one is being referred to in a post.

I graduated from IIT and went to Duke for my MS. Without a doubt Duke education was significantly better than at IIT.
