UT vs. Duke

I have to choose which college to attend. I will be majoring in engineering -- i realize UT has a stellar engineering program, but Duke is... Duke! Any opinions?

Have you visited both schools?. Different areas of the country, different campuses, different feels. Will the cost be a factor?

I know that there are many people that envy the decision that you are about to make. That doesn't make the decision any easier, though.

Hopefully someone with some insight into the different engineering programs will read this and give you a reply. I guess I'm just bumping it up a little bit for you. Congrats.

you said it yourself...Duke is Duke. us news has duke tied with stanford and mit for the no.5 school in the country. those rankings are kinda bogus but duke has a much more competetive academic climate and a much more selective admissions process. a duke degree is well respected througout the country and they have an incredible record for graduate schools. while texas is a fine school, duke is an incredible one. great acc basketball too. one question: how are you accepted to duke already? they havnt released regular decisions and theyre an early decision school.

Great Big 12 football and basketball and baseball :P

Um, Duke isn't even on the charts for engineering...

and more selective, uh, no. I applied to MIT EA - 13% acceptance rate
My friend applied to Duke RD - 19% acceptance rate

You said admissions PROCESS, though. What does that mean? They scrutinize applications more closely?

For engineering, I'd say UT. But Duke is Duke....
You should pick UT.

UT, cuz I'm going there over Duke Eng. and MIT

Whoa, picking anything over MIT for engineering...that takes guts man. Good luck, UT could use someone like you.
