Hey,
I am currently deciding between applying early to Northwestern and Duke.
I think that i will pursue a career in business.
I am curious whether Duke Econ or Northwestern Econ + Kellogg Certificate will be better for getting a job.

Both are phenomenal universities. However, Norwestern may be better for a economics/business degree.

They’re more known for those areas.

Kellogg is a much bigger name than Fuqua.

I’m having your EXACT SAME PROBLEM! Except I’m not going into business.

I guess I have to take a risk with RD :(

Have you visited both?

D and I did this on two consecutive days. After Duke – she didn’t even want to finish the tour. After NU, she wanted to go there. Not meant as a criticism of Duke, I could see a student making the opposite choice based on campus easily.

the Schools have a different feel to them.

Many factors come into play for landing a job. It’s very difficult to conclude whether one would gives you more advantage than another, given the two schools are pretty close. Another uncertainty comes from the fact that you don’t know if you will get into Kellogg cert.

But if you do end up taking Kellogg cert, you will be pursuing possibly the most advanced finance/managerial analytics curriculum available to undergrads in the country. The courses are Kellogg MBA-level courses and the pre-reqs are full of math. You should be comfortable with a fair amount of math if you want to take this route. From the academic standpoint, Kellogg cert is one of the very best things out there.
