Duke vs UChicago vs MIT

I am a junior in high school. I am looking to apply to Duke, UChicago, and MIT. My PSAT was a 230 so my SAT will probably be a 2300. I plan on doing hospital volunteering and research at my local university for engineering. I have a 3.7 UW GPA this year, but it will probably be a 3.9 by December of this year. Also with 6 APs planed with 5s since I took all the AP practice tests. I plan on doing EE at MIT, BME at Duke, or Chemistry at UChicago. I am also currently in scholars bowl and NHS. I plan on EDing at Duke and EAing at the others. Is this a smart thing to do. What are my chances at these schools. If current students, alumni, or interested people could respond.

I don’t understand why you’re planning to do different majors at different schools. If you’re not sure yet what you’re really interested in, you should consider schools that cover all your possible fields of study. For example, since you seem to be interested in engineering, Chicago doesn’t seem a good match. Your ED/EA plan makes sense only if Duke is absolutely your first choice and financial aid doesn’t matter. I don’t know about the other 2, but MIT is a reach.

I am interested in all of these majors. I would major in the major that these colleges are known for. Financial aid is not a problem. Duke is my first choice, but I would not mind going to the others at all. Does anyone else have an opinion on this. For current students or alumni, can you talk about the attactions of these schools and why you chose to go there.

Can’t say anything about the other two schools, but I’m headed to Duke BME in the fall for graduate program. Duke’s BME is fantastic and widely-regarded as a top 3 program in the nation. I also noticed the people who I emailed (probably too much) such as administrators and directors were very prompt and helpful in their responses. This was before I even got accepted/matriculated. I think you should probably visit these schools and see where you’re most comfortable. All three schools are excellent.
