I got into both Duke and U of M for biomedical engineering. I've always wanted to go to a top tier school, and I really wanna go to Duke. However, Michigan gave me the 20k/year engineering scholarship, which is almost effectively a half ride (around 45k/year for out of state). Duke gave me nothing, but they are reconsidering their aid after some factors, but I doubt they will increase it by much, and from what I am reading, they don't match merit aid either....so I feel like I'm getting screwed over for working hard (and the I like is going to Duke full ride to play volleyball)....gah someone help me understand the position I'm in. I guess the financial aid package has hit me smack in the face. Feel like I shouldn't have tried so hard in high school.

then you would not have been accepted to Duke or Michigan (with the $20k scholarship)

If you got zip, from Duke, they are basically saying that your parents have the income and assets that they can pay the full freight cost of you attending (which puts you in a much better postion, than a lot of other people).

If they don't want to pay this, going to Michigan is not a fate worse than death where they will be paying the out of state equivalent of what you probably would have to pay to attend in-state at your own state U.

Count your blessings and keep it moving.

duke is the place to be for biomedical engineering, u can't get any better than that.

nmehta, do you know much about Duke's BME? Is their program very rigorous? All I know is that its ranked near the top of the nation....

Michigan has an excellent reputation, as well. You really can't go wrong with either school. I suggest talking to your parents about the financial situation. Some parents can easily pay the difference & are happy to do so. For others, paying the difference is not easy ... and they may really appreciate it is you take the less expensive option, since you don't seem to have a clear preference between the two.

Ha my real preference is Duke. =/1

Why is your real Pref. Duke? have you visited and like it more...or do you just want to go to the higher ranked school?

You got a 20K scholarship to one of the top schools in the nation, and you feel like you've been screwed and all your effort wasted?

That banging sound you hear is my head hitting my desk.
