<p>Duke thinks their s*it doesn't stink. Its ranked 8th in the nation yet its average SAT scores, and acceptance rate compare more with Northwestern, Brown, Cornell, JHU, and Rice, schools that it believes it is SO much better than. Or maybe Duke's ranked so high because all the Northeastern prep school kids that get rejected from HYPSM go there.</p>
<p>And this isn't out of spite or vengeance: I got accepted to Duke and decided I didn't want to be a part of the "wannabe" culture. Duke is like the little brother always hanging around the big kids (Pretty much all the Ivies, MIT, Stanford, CalTech) that somehow believes it is on the same level as them</p>
<p>im surprised you decided not to go...sounds like you'd fit in perfectly there...</p>
<p>in the end you are making a decision on sacrificing a bit of academics and reputation for social life (and lower cost)....<br>
they are both up theyre academically and socially, but duke has an edge in the academics and uva in social life... regardless fender you will end up happy at either because they are built for students with similar tastes</p>

Too bad Duke is better than half the Ivies and no "wannabe" culture exists here. If I wanted a "wannabe" Harvard culture, I would have gone to Brown whose only claim to fame is being part of the Ivy League.</p>
