I am having a lot of trouble deciding if I want to apply to Duke or Washu ED. I am currently a senior in high school and will be sending out applications in about a month. I have an interest in business, spanish, and economics. I am especially interested in hearing your responses on whether a liberal arts business education at duke would/wouldn’t be better than taking classes at Olin. I know at Duke I would probably have to take economics and the markets and management certificate to pursue business. Also, I’d love to hear your view on the flexibility of taking courses at both schools since I have a lot of interests and do not want to be limited by not being able to take classes in multiple fields or schools. I don’t really care about d1 athletics, although I do care about close-knit communities where I will be accepted and have no issue making friends. Also, if you would like to share your opinion about other characteristics of both schools (i.e. social life, location, study abroad programs) that would be great.
Not true. Check out Program II at Duke:

Both are great schools. Duke has a much more sports oriented culture. Lots of students double major at Duke. There are a wide variety of majors, minors and certificates that you can do at Duke. Some students even triple major. I don’t know much about Wash U other than its in St Louis. But you can’t go wrong with Duke.
Why have you narrowed it down to those two schools?
For the most part, but I am open to other suggestions.
If you can’t decide where you want to go, I don’t think that early decision is necessarily the best choice for you.
I want to apply ed somewhere. I know I will be happy at both schools, so I want to increase my chances of getting in at one by applying ed.
What kind of business are you interested in? Entrepreneurship- doesn’t really matter. Careers that require specific certifications like accounting: Olin because it actually offers an accounting degree. However, Duke has the clear edge in management consulting and finance. Personally, during my visit 3 years ago, I found the kids at WashU to be friendlier in a geeky kinda way. Duke kids are fun and social, but from what I’ve seen social life might seem a little limited at first if you don’t party/drink/are not typically outgoing - though I do know plenty of people who don’t drink yet love it here.
If you’re truly indifferent between both schools, applying to WashU ED is a better bet because Duke is more difficult to get into.
I am interested in a lot of types of business like finance, marketing, and hospitality. Also, I do have legacy at Duke, so my shot at getting in at both schools is pretty equal, maybe a little harder at Duke.
Legacy really improves your chances a lot at Duke. More than 35% of legacy kids who apply ED are accepted, compared to 23% of the overall ED pool.
