dumb question about tuxedo

So i made up my mind in today that i'm going to prom which is this thursday. About the tuxedo, this is really stupid, but can I just take a suit and just replace the tie with a bowtie and use that as my tux or will it look odd?

What’s the problem with a normal necktie? Many tuxes have shirts suited for neckties - I wore a necktie with my tux. Furthermore, you don’t necessarily need to wear a tux to prom; the only difference is the belt, that little strip down the side of the pants (I have no idea what the purpose is…) and a vest (which some tux-wearers don’t even opt for). My prom was yesterday, and we took off our jackets for almost the entire time, since it would have been too hot to dance in them.

Anyways, it would probably be difficult to rent/acquire a tux within four days. Unless it is mandatory at your school to wear a bowtie, I would just wear the suit and whatever tie you have (well, try to match your date if you have one) and be done with it.

is it possible to buy one immediately, from sears or jcpenny’s?

A lot of people at my son’s recent prom wore regular suits instead of renting tuxes. My son went w/ a friend to Men’s Warehouse as they were having a buy1/get 1 free, and they bought 2 suits and split the cost. He rented a vest to match his GF’s dress. We figured he needed a suit anyway for some upcoming events, so it was better to do it this way.

Jcpenny sells the entire black tux ensemble to include shoes, shirt, vest, tie, everything. We hot a sale and came on under 200. It’s a nice Tux and now we own it. Check them out.
