i'm looking at tuxedos online right now for prom (afterhoursprom.com). the selection is huge and i have no idea where to start! 3-button, 4-button, 5-button.... 8 button? and the vests look all the same to me, haha.

pretty much, I want a medium priced tux that looks nice and fits well and for the vest to match my date's dress, but besides that, I really have no idea what I should get. Do you guys have any suggestions or tips when it comes to tuxedos???? any types that are in fashion or anything i should watch out for?

also, is it worth buying a tux? My friend at Harvard says he's worn his 7-8 times and is strongly advocating that I purchase one for myself. I'll be going to a comparable institution next year (Yale) so I'm guessing there will be just as many opportunities that calls for a tux? any comments on this?

^^;;; I'm a girl. :] I say your Havard friend is right. It is worth buying a tux. :] Because you can wear it whenever you want. :P I went to the web site. :] Checked out some tuxedos. I think you should buy the Tommy Hilfiger Luxury 2 button notch. I think it would look good. :/ I have no idea how much it cost. ^^You choose what tux makes you feel comfortable and handsome. XD Goodluck at choosing your tux! I hope I helped a little.

the vests usually have different sticthing patterns (like diamonds, floral prints, zigzags) you might have to zoom in to see the difference online. The Men's Wearhouse is offering rentals starting at $45, i dont know if there's one near you.

I second the Men's Wearhouse rental idea - I don't think it's worth it to buy a tux. Get a suit instead. (not for prom obviously, but for other things) You will have many more opportunities to wear a suit than a tux.

I kind of agree with icarus. buy yourself a nice suit. you'll have numerous opportunities to wear a suit during college. and when the time comes to wear a tux, you can wear the suit anyway because the only difference a suit and a tux is that the tux is usually made from a brighter, more glossy finish. Otherwise a suit and tux look pretty much the same. Just get a vest, tie, and shirt for the tux.

I own a tuxedo I've had for about 3 years, we bought cheap at Building 19 (which is basically like a super super crappy walmart. this being my senior year, I decided to go get a rental. I got a nice calvin klein one, with a normal long tie and vest, both light tan-ish, and a black tuxedo, its gonna be sweet.

well ath, unless its a wierd shade, couldn't she just tell you what color it is? Or if you want to be safe, you could bring her along, or if she can get a picture of the dress, you could bring that.

i think you should buy it. my friend rented it for a good one for a steep price. if you just paid a little more you mights well bring it home and use it for future occassions.
