During this time, is it normal/common to do so?
What do ypu mean by “college mentality”?
Do you have a full time job lined up? Are you back living with your parents?
Hard to say what’s “normal” during a pandemic period.
More explanation would be helpful.
I plan to do a masters in fall.
By college mentality, I mean just feel like a student on break?
You ARE a student on break, so feeling like one isn’t strange…
NOT 100 %understanding this but take a break. Your mind /body needs a break from the last 4 years of school. If you don’t have anything lined up now that is fine. Masters in the fall is plenty. Read a book, exercise, do something nice for yourself. You’ll be back in the grind soon enough.
If you are continuing to school…you are a student on break.
Once you get a job it will take a while before you don’t look at Aug/Sept as the beginning of a new school year (until/if you have kids)
Yes, and it will go on for at least a year, until you get used to your new situation. If you are starting a maters, your mentality will change more slowly, since your general situation won’t change. If you are doing a non-thesis masters, you may have to force yourself into a more mature mentality, since things won’t change all that much, externally, but faculty will expect more maturity, more initiative, and more engagement. If you are doing a thesis masters, you will be spending a lot of time doing stuff which is very different than undergraduate stuff, and so the mentality shift will be easier.
In short, it’s very normal, and it will change.
