<p>I was struck by all our names. I thought of Alfred Lord Tennyson and nearly wept. I have taken liberty with his poem.</p>
<p>The Charge of the Dartmouth ED Brigade</p>
<p>Half a league half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Decision
Strode our thirty-nine:
'Forward, the Dartmouth ED Brigade!
"Let the Moose loose'" ajayc opined:
Into the valley of Decision
Strode our thirty-nine.</p>
<p>'Forward, the Dartmouth ED Brigade!'
Was there a man or woman dismay'd ?
Not tho' the student knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Ours not to make reply,
Ours not to reason why,
Ours but to do & die,
Into the valley of Decision
Strode our thirty-nine.</p>
<p>Cannon to right of us,
Cannon to left of us,
Cannon in front of us
Volley'd & thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly we strode and well,
Into the jaws of Decison,
Into the mouth of Hell
Strode our thirty-nine.</p>
<p>Flash'd all our ECs bare,
Flash'd as we turn'd SATs there
Lifting our grade points in the air,
Charging an adcom while
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line we broke;
Admission staff & Director
Reel'd from the essay-stroke,
Shatter'd & in decline.
Then we strode back, but not
Not our thirty-nine.</p>
<p>Cannon to right of us,
Cannon to left of us,
Cannon behind us
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While moose & hero fell,
We that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Decision,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of us,
Left of thirty-nine.</p>
<p>When can our glory fade?
O the wild charge we made!
All the world wonder'd.
Honor the charge we made!
Honor the Dartmouth ED Brigade,
Noble thirty-nine!</p>
