e-readers in college

at first i thought i can't get an e-reader - someone will snatch it from my hands on the bus and run off with it (!) but then i realized they aren't all that expensive and probably not the most desirable objects for theft unless it was carelessly mistaken for an ipad or tablet computer. and even if it was, i might be able to scrounge together the money to replace it. so i am rethinking this now.

and i would rather take one of those to school everyday than my laptop because 1) my laptop is already broken and if the other side of the screen unhinges from being jostled too hard or if i crack my screen again then that will require MORE nontrivial, costly repairs, 2) it would make my idle time at school more productive (even if i'm avoiding homework at least i would be reading rather than browsing websites), and 3) it's more compact and presumably less of a pain to carry around than having to carefuly stuff my laptop, mouse and other components into a backpack they hardly fit into on the days when i muster the energy to get out of the front door (taking the e-reader with me instead of the laptop might have the added benefit of lowering the activation energy required to getting me to school, thereby increasing my attendance).

so i think i'm going to lobby my mom to buy me one. but which one?

I’d recommend an Amazon Kindle e-reader like the Paperwhite if you want strictly an e-reader.
