God, I'm so in love with MIT. I hope I don't get jilted.

SCEA STANFORD... if MIT gets a Med school, then ill think about it... till then i rather attend open graduate courses in medicine then sit around with basic sciences.... something u can do in ur spare time.. MIT is a good undergrad school nonetheless... ill be excited to apply for RD (highly doubt ill make it!)... great school... nerdism rocks...!!! no sarcasm intended. :p :)

GOOD LUCK MIT EA HOPEFULS... better rip some "application-admission-process-ass"!!!

Uh, you can attend Harvard Med school medical classes as an MIT undergrad, both those that are held at MIT (for the Health Sciences and Technology HMS MD program) and those that are held at Harvard. Harvard and MIT have free cross-registration, and students from either school can earn credit for courses taken at the other.

Mollie... i heard that it is kind of hard to do cross-registration... is it a breeze? can i just, as a MIT undergrad, go attend a 2 week seminar/course for medicine at harvard med school for a partial credit?

I thought they kind of do not allow free cross-registration strictly speaking if they offer the certain courses etc at their own campus..

Could you clarify this for me Mollie??

Because as of now, I want to enter the Neuroscience Field for undergraduate studies, and Stanford/Johns Hopkins/ MIT all ran my mind as potential SCEA/ED/EA options... Quite hard to decide which to do... i like each school equally... there are pros and cons for both, but i rather have a school with a few more passionate individuals in medicine...

The data that i looked upon for class of 2010 says that only about 8% of MIT undergrads are pre-meds...
While in schools like Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Harvard, i can find more people who can relate to me in that aspect...

Yah it is a very hard option for me right now... MIT has a great cognitive sci/neurosci department... so does Johns Hopkins and Stanford has great Human Biology courses/Psych.... Harvard is just harvard, though i love their philosophy program...

So if you could help me out Mollie, it'd be very appreciated

Sincerely,

Ambitiousteen

P.S. Sorry for posting this in this thread, i should of PMed Mollie...
Continue on with potential EA list ignore this post unless ur Mollie :p :)
The cross-registration procedure itself is very easy. It can be a challenge to schedule all of your classes and include travel time, since the medical school's Longwood campus is about 20 minutes away from MIT by bus. (This would be a problem for Harvard undergraduates also, as the medical school and the college are not on the same campus. There's a free shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes between Harvard's Cambridge campus and the medical school campus, and it stops at MIT as well.)

The cross-reg info for Harvard is here. You can normally get credit for any class you take at Harvard (though if it's a two-week seminar, you likely won't get 12 full units of MIT credit), but if MIT offers a substantially similar course, you may find it difficult to get credit for requirements (that is, you may not be able to use the Harvard class toward your degree program or toward the General Institute Requirements, but you won't have trouble getting elective credit for it).

Sure, and more people to compete with, too.

Thank you for taking the time to reply Mollie.

So, I just found out Johns Hopkins does not allow undergrads to attend seminars/courses for graduate studies in medicine.

Are you for sure that this is possible with MIT/Harvard Cross-registration right Mollie? As a undergrad, i will be allowed to go and take certain graduate in medicine courses?

Sorry for Hijacking the thread again guys :p

Yes, I've known people who took courses at the med school. All Harvard University classes are open to MIT undergrads, with the exception of Harvard Business School courses, and of course with the exception of classes that may be restricted to certain grad programs or may be enrollment-restricted.

From the cross-reg guidelines:

I mean, you likely wouldn't get credit for medical school, but you would get credit toward an MIT undergraduate degree.

Thank you very much Mollie.

Very very appreciative of your help.

Clarified a lot of things for me.

Definitely adding myself to the list...hehe ;)
