EA 2011 represent!

Okay, very silly -- but how early is too early to begin an EA 2011 thread? :) Do we wait until the app is actually up?

Nahh, I say it's just about time. It's absolutely insane. There's less than 7 months until we have to turn them in!

Does anyone know if the application stays the same year after year (or the essay topics anyways)?

I don't think they'll change the essay questions.

I'm an EAer for 2011.

me too! i have 3 teachers to choose 2 out of to write my recs ... CAN'T DECIDE!!! (and no, i don't think any of them will be appropriate for doing the additional rec)

I'm going to be applying EA, I hope! Ready for my dreams to be crushed already, haha.

trinsf youre on this board so much i figured you were an applicant or someone who already went there...but it seems your just an overzealous high school junior.

I can totally relate, stanfordream! I have two teachers who like me a lot, I think, but then they're also really moody so I can never quite tell. Plus, people in one of those classes intimidate me so I don't think she believes I'm a good speaker, which equals bad checks on the rec. Here's hoping I can change her mind about that in the next two months.

Say, maybe we should start posting projected stats and start making inane predictions about our chances!

No, really. I'd do that.

Haha. Eek, this whole Stanford thing scares me so much. I want to stay realistic, but at the same time my huge, enormous, gigantic, monstrous desire to get in is overwhelming me. I think we should list CC as an ec. ;]

how is everyone's stats like?

P.S. I immigrated from Pakistan when I was five, and I didnt know any English back then.So I had to work hard to get to this level. Would that help me get in?

Thanks for the Help!

age 5 is pretty young. I was born in US and didn't learn English till age 4.

wow you took 6 AP's before your senior year?

"trinsf youre on this board so much i figured you were an applicant or someone who already went there...but it seems your just an overzealous high school junior."

Nope. As I have explained several times, I'm none of those things. I'm a parent. I live within 20 minutes of Stanford, so I know a lot of things about local stuff, like transit, weather, etc. (We're within walking distance of the campus several times a week, thanks to a hardcore Hobee's addiction.) I have also posted before that my son applied a year early to Stanford, as a long shot. He has the option of graduating a year early via CHSPE and taking a gap year, or doing homeschool/college courses, or transfering to another high school, because his is teh suck.

CC is notorious for making students anxious or freaking them out or making them focus on the wrong things -- you can really get an unrealistic sense of what achievement is, if you're not careful. So, by mutual agreement, I read CC, and my son doesn't. That way, he doesn't get freaked out by it. He's too busy anyway.

I have always been up front about being a parent, and have always made clear that I'm not the studen in my household doing the applying. If it seems like I'm around a lot, it's because I'm taking taking time off to spend it with my children, and for financial aid purposes.

ahh i c. i really havent read many of the other boards.

Best wishes from EA 2010!

i have better stats and was waitlisted.

good luck!

does the essay prompts for this 2010 stay the same for 2011? how often do they change essay prompts?

See post #3. Personally, I remember the picture question being on there from last year so I'm going to assume that that one at least will remain the same. The other three are pretty generic so I'm hoping that they'll stay the same.

What's the word limit for the short answer ones?

No word limit. Just a space limit. When I visited there and spoke with an admissions officer, they pleaded with people to not come up with weird ploys to cram more words in the space. Just fill it normally and stop.

the essays were identical from last year to this year. Its pretty safe to say they will be again. Worst case if you get started early and choose the wrong topic is that you just got great practice
