EA 2025 Richmond

Thank you! mid semester grades weren’t an option with our schools virtual structure and she is taking 3 community college courses-but her finals (thankfully good) will be out this week. She knew she’d get moved to Regular decision if they weren’t in (I didn’t realize)-I guess she got the advise to wait if they weren’t complete. I’m sure there are different schools of thought on this-but she is fine with it! She had another school ask, but they gave until Feb. 1 for her to submit.

Thanks for the feedback.

I’m so happy everything worked out for your daughter. This was such a stressful wait

She could not apply ED. We cannot afford to pay whatever they say.

I know it’s too late now, but normally you can get out of ED binding contracts if you can’t afford it. Just an FYI if you have to go through this process again in the future

Thank you!
We will do that. I just am afraid that acceptance after deferral means no $$. In which case, it wouldn’t matter if she gets in later.

Aw thanks! This acceptance really relieves so much stress for her and for me!

My D was also deferred. Like many others, she applied TO, 3.96UW 4.26W- many APs and honors, Varsity Cheer. This was one of her top choices, but she has been accepted to others and awarded merit scholarships. Seems as if there is a large pool of well-qualified deferred applicants to be considered for Regular Decision. Does anyone know the percentage admitted after deferral?

I was accepted and am 1/85 finalists for the Richmond Scholars program. All Scholar finalists automatically get the Presidential scholarship.

Just a note about Financial Aid and ED. The schools are good about this. And Richmond is very generous to those with true need. If you have applied for financial aid and they do not give you sufficient aid to cover costs (and you have a reasonable argument), they can not hold you to your acceptance. Richmond is always listed in the top 20- 40 schools in USA as most generous with FA, so no worries.

But they do package loans, no? I wonder how much they expect families to take on in loans.

Check your inbox…I messaged you.

Yes, Richmond does package loans as part of their FA. They include the full federal loan amount each year. Then they meet 100% of demonstrated need (according to their institutional calculations) with grants. I have talked on the phone with the FA office. We should have the package by 2/1.

Oh that’s good that it’s only the federal loan included.

That’s definitely not true at top schools like Richmond. You can get just as good financial aid packages in regular decision as in ED / EA. The difference is you are in the wasteland that is regular decision so acceptance is that much more difficult.

Just checking: if I didn’t submit my Midyear scores by 12/1 I was automatically deferred to RD?

I don’t think anyone here knows for sure but updated grades were part of the checklist and everyone who didn’t have them on file received an email asking them to send them by 12/1.

D21 deferred with 1530 SAT, 4.5/4.0 gpa, 7 AP classes, many leadership and community service ECs. Has been accepted ED to an ivy so withdrew her deferral. We were a bit surprised by the deferral — but she planned to withdraw her app anyways. It all works out!! Best of luck to all!

Can you inbox me as well…Thanks in advance.

This sounds very tempting. Thanks.

My S deferred. 34 ACT and 3.7GPA (illness freshman year; remaining years >4.0), APs and Dual Enrollment, ECs, also strong alumni recommendation, met w AO, attended virtual, submitted Q1grades -straight As… so that was a tough one for him as well. I felt his essay was best of all schools. Clearly many many qualified students. There were 20 applicants from his school. Historically around 13 apply w 4-5 acceptances. So who knows if they wanted to limit acceptances from same school.

I do love UofR. And full paying student which I thought that would somewhat help too.
