Congrats, Irvinemom to your D!

^ Thank you cpeltz! And best of luck to you!

Hello everyone,
I am a sophomore at Goucher College. Congratulations to everyone that was accepted! I love it here, and I'm sure if you choose to go here you will too!

If the financial aid site isn't working, you should contact the Financial Aid office FinAid@goucher.edu or Admissions admissions@goucher.edu.

As for midyear reports, you should call the Admissions office to double check with them: 410-337-6100. They'll be happy to answer any questions you might have!

I definitely recommend that you join the Facebook group. I just checked, and someone made a group for 2013 recently. (It's called "Goucher College Class of 2013!!") I transferred to Goucher this year, but I was in a group for the class of 2011 at my old school and it was VERY helpful. I was able to find current students and ask them questions about my dorm room, classes, etc. and I found my roommate. (She actually created the group!) We all shared our thoughts, anxieties, and excitement over the Summer before we met. By the time we got to school, many of us recognized each other instantly and it helped break the ice.
Even if you're not sure about going to Goucher, I suggest you join the group for the class of 2013. You can always leave the group later if you want! It looks like other people were really excited that there was a group too... Someone even put up a survey that a few people have already filled out, so you can get a small taste of some of your potential classmates!
Feel free to check out the groups for 2012, 2011, and 2010 if you want to the ask the current students some questions.

Again, congratulations everyone!

D deferred :( not a happy day here last week. She even did a weekend sleepover with a team, and had a great visit with some teachers. Some great news from other schools helped soften the blow.

Congrats to all that got in!

Sorry Mom1213, I feel your deferral pain. My S was very disappointed too.

Deferred does not mean rejected. Perhaps your S/D could call admissions and see if there is any thing they can do. Good luck.

When our S was deferred last year we were also really surprised and upset. His college counselor at school suggested that he write a letter to the admissions office with a sort of update describing how he was doing in his current classes and to remind them that he was really interested in being considered for RD. He later got in and is very happy at the school, and was also accepted at two schools where he was deferred.

Part of the disappointment is our assumption that deferral=no merit money.

Same here cpeltz, We are almost sure since she was not accepted EA, there will be no merit money. With 2 in college, $ is a big issue. Goucher was tied for her number one, but now I don't think she is considering it. I am not sure what else she could have done, GC said the same thing. Her stats are high and she met with and had a sleep-over with the team. The other schools she got into all gave her $$ and offer the same majors, and she felt welcomed and at home there. I think that makes a big difference - feeling welcomed. My oldest D was deferred from one school last year, and she too never looked back. She loves where she is and she could never see herself anywhere else.

S felt very welcomed while visiting Goucher, but they've done nothing since - no mailings, no emails, no acceptance. He's still wistful about it, but we're moving on too. I can't justify the COA without merit.
